Join our effort to equip safe bomb shelters for children at the “Barvinok” and “Chervona Shapochka” Kindergartens in the Chernihiv Region

In the Ladanska territorial community, children wake up every morning to a reality where air raid alarms are not a rare occurrence, but a regular part of their daily lives. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, over 2,600 alarms have sounded in the region, each lasting an average of 1 hour and 40 minutes. Small children spend hundreds of hours a year in underground shelters.

Unfortunately, we cannot stop the air raids. But we can improve the spaces where children hide from danger.

The International Charity Foundation "Angels of Freedom" is leading this project to convert the shelters at these kindergartens from basic basements into safe environments where children can learn, play, and find comfort despite air raid threats. Our goal: fully equip these vital spaces for ongoing safety and support.

Kindergarten “Barvinok” is attended by 50 children:
16 toddlers (under 4 years old)34 preschoolers (5–6 years old)38 children are considered vulnerable:● 26 affected by war● 9 from large families● 3 internally displaced persons (IDPs)

Kindergarten “Chervona Shapochka” is attended by 66 children:
15 toddlers (under 4 years old)35 preschoolers (5–6 years old)16 first-grade students32 children are considered vulnerable:● 22 affected by war● 4 IDPs● 6 from large families
Due to constant air raid alerts, children are often forced to take shelter from danger underground.

What’s the current state?

Both underground shelters lack ventilation, and their walls, ceilings, and floors are in need of repair. There is a lack of child-appropriate furniture. Under these conditions, it's impossible to organize interactive activities, games, or simply a comfortable stay, all of which are essential for helping children cope with fear during the attacks.
